The Mangalorean United Konkani Association (MUKA), a vibrant community organization based in Nottingham, England, proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary—a remarkable milestone for the Konkani diaspora in the UK. Established in 2006, MUKA was founded with a mission to unite the Konkani-speaking community, preserve its rich cultural heritage, and nurture its traditions for future generations. Alongside this, MUKA has also committed itself to charitable causes, supporting those in need both locally and globally.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, MUKA is excited to announce ‘Voice of Konkan’, a global online Konkani singing competition that invites passionate singers from around the world to showcase their talent and love for the language. This international event serves as a heartfelt tribute to Konkani culture, promoting unity through music and artistic expression.
The journey of MUKA began when a group of like-minded Mangalurean families from Nottingham and Derby came together with a shared vision—to create a home away from home in the East Midlands of England. What started as a small gathering has grown into a dynamic association that continues to foster a strong sense of community, identity, and belonging among those originally from Mangaluru, Karnataka.
As a non-profit cultural organization, MUKA regularly hosts social gatherings, traditional celebrations, and cultural programs aimed at keeping the Konkani spirit alive in the UK. Their events serve as both a bridge to the past and a beacon for future generations, ensuring that the unique Mangalurean identity continues to thrive abroad.
